competition social housing Hartberg

idea

The three to four floor and north east to south-west orientated dwellings provide the possibility to gain sufficient public space between these building blocks. A slight rotation at the building´s center avoids long visual building lines and creates fluid spaces.

concept

apartments and buildings

There are various apartment typs, between 55m² and 90m², single floored or on two floors offered. All apartments have a very open south-west and relatively closed north-east façade, which provides privacy in the living areas aswell as in secondary spaces. Each apartment counts with a private garden, terrace or balcony, naturally ventilated bathrooms and WCs.

circulation

Each apartment counts with two parking lots in proximity to the building entrance. The interior of the plot is not accessibly for cars and used exclusively by pedestrians and bicyclists on designated lanes and counts with areas specially designed for kids, teenagers and adults.

energy efficiency

The long but still compact building form results in very good LC-coefficient. Big openings with adoptable sun screens on the south-east facade increase efficiency of passive solar energy use. Every building is equipped  with a solar water heating system in combination with a central and therefore much more efficient insulated tank. Each person of the building counts with 2,5m² of solar collector surface , which provides hot water even in winter or cloudy periods.
